Welcome to Hatch End Tennis Club

People playing tennis.

The club is friendly and informal, and welcomes new members of all ages and standards.

There are seven all weather courts with the latest synthetic grass. Floodlights have been installed on two courts, enabling year round tennis and coaching up to 9.30pm. There are modern changing rooms and shower facilities, together with full kitchen facilities. The large clubhouse incorporates a lounge, bar, table tennis, table football, darts and a pool table. The bar is open on Friday evenings and at other times during the week.

Hatch End Tennis Club has approximately 300 members with a thriving junior section. Many of the members live in Hatch End, within walking distance of the Club; a considerable advantage if participating in one of the many social events put on during the year! History

In 1925 two gentlemen, Mr F.S. Price and Mr. H Groslett, decided that Hatch End needed a tennis club. They formed the Hatch End Lawn Tennis Co. Ltd. and collected enough money from 28 local residents to start the project. The Directors delegated to a Committee the responsibility of governing and regulating the use of the Club, which was then styled The Hatch End Hard Courts Lawn Tennis Club.

There is room for 8 tennis courts and a pavilion. Initially 6 courts were completed in 1926 and the club has provided top-class tennis facilities for generations of local people at its secluded and attractive premises off Clonard Way.

The Club is non-commercial and is managed and run by the members. It benefits greatly from the decision by members in 1946 to acquire the freehold of the site. It has endeavoured to develop the facilities at the Club to enable it to compete with other Clubs yet to maintain its unique family atmosphere enhanced by the original, but greatly improved, wooden clubhouse.

In 2000 the club celebrated its seventy fifth anniversary with a dinner dance at the Grimsdyke Golf Club and 5 years later celebrated 80 years with another dinner dance at Grimsdyke Golf Club.

Who knows, perhaps a future Wimbledon Champion will be nurtured in this friendly, family Club.
