-HELTC 85th Anniversary Dinner Dance: Saturday 27 February.  These are always wonderful, fun events and as usual this year’s will be held at Grimsdyke Golf Club, with a live band.  Price £35 per head.  There will be a competition for the best table centre-piece!  Make up tables of 8 or let Kate Gilmore sort you out with a table. 8428 6935 or kategil@aol.com +Coach’s News:
-Sunday Brunch: all members are welcome to the February Brunch on 14 FebruaryCome along at 9.30am for a game or two of tennis followed by a tasty snack prepared by Chef John Reeves at 11.30amFixed fours and social players all welcome.   +  * Simon will be getting his own room in the converted chair store. 
-(NB the brunch due to be held this Sunday, 10 January, has been CANCELLED due to the snow.)+  * Mid-week Mini coaching resumes in September and there will be a Sports Camp every half term for juniors. Look for details at the new location for junior matters which will be on the lower half of the verandah noticeboard.  
 +Tennis Matters: 
 +  * Scoreboards: these are now in operation on the main courts and have proven to be extremely popular with spectators especially during the summer inter-club matches. 
 + * 2010 Finals Day: photographs are now on show in the bar. The event itself went very well with good weather and the first use of the new club barbecue.  
 + * Floodlights on courts 1,2,3 and 4: once the installation is completed in early September, matches of all types can begin to be played during the shorter evenings. Members will be able to purchase tokens to use the floodlights but no charge is due during Middlesex league matches or the Friday evening social. 
 + * Ball boxes: these are in dire need of refurbishment. Any creative types out there ? 
 + * Sunday 19th September: Veterans Final and the Mixed Doubles Plate Final 
 +  * Sunday 3rd October : Closed Mixed Tournament (with a fallback date of Sunday 10th October) 
 +Social Scene: 
 +  * Saturday 20th November 7:30: Quiz Evening 
 +  * New TV in clubhouse: without a doubt this came into its own during the World Cup and Wimbledon (and will do so with other tennis championships). Other uses could be Film Nights with drinks from the bar and food from our resident “chef” John. 
 +  * “Grand switching on of the floodlights” complete with a curry supper. Date tbc 
 +  * Scalextric evening: date tbc 
 +  * Junior Fun Evening on a Friday in September: dates tbc. 
 +  * Floodlit Matches: with the new floodlights imminent the chance of organising friendlies & inter-team matches will definitely boost the competitive and social scene during the normally quieter autumn and winter periods. John has offered to cook team suppers for friendlies under the same arrangements as in summer and for inter-team matches (within the club) at £4 a head if members are interested in post- match nourishment. Details to follow.

 +The ITF (governing body of world tennis & rule maker) has a Code for non-officiated tennis matches. One section states: 
 +“Courtesy: tennis is a game that requires cooperation and courtesy from all participants who should not: conduct loud post-mortems after points; complain about shots like lobs & drop shots; embarrass a weak opponent by being overly gracious or condescending; lose their temper; use vile language; throw their racket; slam a ball in anger or sulk when they are losing” Interesting ?

-Singles Box League: the final of this winter event will probably take place on Finals Day, 10 July.  We hope to make an annual presentation of a trophy/cup for this event.  Would anyone like to donate a suitable trophy?  Ring Janette 8428 7254.+Of the 27 team suppers prepared by in-house chef John the most popular chosen dishes were:

-And finally: we are hoping that 2010 will be an excellent year for the Club.  In order to ensure that the Club flourishes we are always looking for new members, whether beginners or fully-fledged players.  If you have friends who you would like to introduce to the Club, please bring them along for a game and show them around.  Member’s visitors are welcome to play at the Club three times a year for a nominal charge.+3rd Egyptian Fish;
